Are You really in to Worship?

I started to encounter worshipping when I attended a bible study and Christian fellowship back in college. I amusingly watch different walks of people singing adoringly a song so simple in lyrics with so much passion and enthusiasm. And to regard their love and devotion through a song dedicated to our Creator and Savior. I began to ask myself, Can I do the same? Can I wholly and totally surrender myself in singing a worship song, to be his witness in his journey toward the cross, to forget the world around me and just stare on his face? I answered hesitantly and said that “I can’t afford to look awkward in front of everyone.” I can’t see myself that time to shout his name in praises and to say Hallelujah!!! It’s a big no way.
This impression changes gradually when I join SFC. At first, I am hesitant to totally let go of my inhibitions, but eventually I started clapping my hands in rhyme with the songs. Then I begin swaying my body in tune with the melody accompanying my seatmates in enjoying the songs and then I learn to examine the meaning of every line in each song. And it is very comforting and assuring to know through all the songs I sing that God has many promises for our life and how great is his gifts for us if we only follow his will. That he will never leave us in time of our depression, solitude, miseries, pain and hopelessness, and his power are greater than our problems no matter how complicated it may seem. And for me worshipping is a great experience of giving back praises and glory to him, that is it not only the great feeling you acquire when you release your emotion to him but it is also a great way of returning the favor he bestowed on you by seeing his greatness and the love with passion he has shown upon the cross sacrificing his only son. When time comes that you free yourself from all shame and let go of your inhibitions in total submission to his power you will involuntary raise your hand and heart to acknowledge his presence to close your eyes to see his face and to meet his gaze as you feel the taste of heaven for that moment when you succumb in his loving embrace. How joyful and triumphant it feels when we jump shout and dance in celebrating our union with him and confess, admit to him that we are nothing without God’s grace and mercy.
What does worship really means? As define in Hebrew lexicon, worship is known as SHACHAH (pronounced SHAWKAW), meaning to 'prostrate in homage to royalty or to God; to bow down, to crouch low, or to fall down in worship. The English word 'worship' was derived from the old English word 'weorthscipe', which is a compound word that was modified to 'worthship' because of its cumbersome pronunciation, and then later contracted to its present spelling, 'worship'.

Worship therefore is:
To express reverence, admiration, veneration or a high sense of awe to God, (II Samuel 6; 6-11)
To bow low before God, (the Sole Object and Main Audience), in worship; and it is also to make obeisance, (Revelations 4;8-11;5:11-14;7;11-12; 11:16-17)
To recognize and esteem the worthiness of God, and to make a suitable response to that worthiness of His, (II Samuel 22:4; Revelations 4:11; 5:12)
To enter into a relationship of intimacy with God, which can be expressed through fellowship with Him, (Genesis 3:8-9; Psalms 42:7)
To become naked and exposed (that is, very vulnerable) in the presence of God, and not be ashamed or feel the loss of one's dignity or prestige, (II Samuel 6:14, 16, 20-23)

It is pleasing to know that worshipping God is what we are created for and saved for, and the exact way we are going to continue doing in heaven and eternally along with the angels singing endlessly in awe, adores and glorifies God’s majesty, worthiness and greatness.
The challenge for us as Single’s For Christ, just try to examine ourselves. Are you just going to sing songs with your lips, unmoved or sing with all your heart, mind, body and soul all lift up to him? Are you going to only receive his grace or willingly be in total surrender and carry your own cross along with Jesus? Are you willing to deny yourself and allow God to control, rule and consume you? Are you really in to heartfelt WORSHIP?
